Our Readers Own Water Damage Stories (got a story, submit it here!)
My wife Peggy and I live in Walnut Creek, California. I cannot tell you
how excited we were when we bought a second home with a terrific view of the
ocean in Manzanita, Oregon. After the closing it took us about a month to
get out there to check out our new vacation home by the beach. But
excitement turned into panic the moment we walked through the door.
Despite being a relatively new construction, the home smelled musty. The
once pristine hardwood floor seemed very sticky. It didn't take us long to
find the wet ceilings and drywall and the moldy carpets. It turns out that
a simple rubber hose on the washing machine upstairs had developed a leak and
all hell had broken loose in our new home. It killed me that this hose
cost less than $3 at Home Depot and yet the failure to fix this leak in time
ended up costing us many thousands of dollars. Luckily, our insurance
policy reimbursed us for the cost. However, it was several weeks of
coordinating contractors and overseeing repairs. Thanks for this awesome
little site. I'll remember it next time I suffer water damage. Of
course, I'll keep my fingers crossed that I'll never have to visit you again!
